The big question on many photographers minds is "What the heck are HDR images?" Well HDR, or high dynamic range, images are just that: images that contain a wider dynamic range than a standard digital photograph, from the darkest shadows to the brightest highlights.
Unfortunately many of the HDR images we see aren't truly HDR due to the limitation in dynamic range of computer monitors and printing papers. Because of this, images are tone mapped to preserve viewable colors and create an extended contrast range.
This method works by combining three or more photos, at least one each of a normal exposure, an overexposure, and an underexposure. They are then tone mapped in image editing programs including, but not limited to, GIMP and Photoshop CS2 to create a final image.

Ever wanted to take underwater pictures without a cheap "underwater" disposable camera or an expensive underwater housing? Well then you should try the US Navy Seal's method of waterproofing electronics.
1. Using a compact digital camera, cut a piece of thin cardboard large enough to create a ring to fit around the lens, you'll see why in a little bit.
2. Take a clear, unlubricated condom and slowly place the camera inside. The cardboard ring allows the lens to open and zoom without stre
PhotoBandits are back!
What makes PhotoBandits different? Well like most other clubs on DA, we're open to submissions of all levels. Unlike most other clubs, we're capitalizing on a few things:
1. Matching beginners with mentors. A mentor will be matched with a small group of 4-5 beginners for the timespan of a month with the intention of critiquing their work honestly and helping them with questions they might have.
2. An emphasis on technique and philosophy. This will include blogs by myself and future contributors discussing the finer points of photography, almost to the point of being a virtual classroom where readers can comment and discuss their feelings an
